Caves of Myrddin chargen

Here is a first stab at a chargen document for the Caves of Myrddin.  Please let me know what bonehead thing I forgot to put on there.  A few omissions were intentional, like two-handed swords and platemail, but I probably forgot something along the way.  Also, all FLAILSNAILS pcs are welcome, though anyone over 3rd level will roll on the gimp chart, at least until I have a bigger dungeon to plunder.

It's totally not too late to get into the player pool.  Since each party will consist of randomly selected people from the pool you aren't hosed by signing up late.  Again, just email jrients/gmail/etc with the header [Friday dungeon].  It looks like the first session will be a week from Friday at 4:30 in the morning my time (CST, which I believe is UTC-6).

  1. While its written kind of amusingly it doesn't sound like a very fun game. The sort of high casualty, abusive game Something Awful's "Grognards.txt" thread would make fun of really.

    To be honest any D&D game not giving max HP for 1st level and doing 3d6 in order is one I would not only decline in playing in, I would warn others against it.

  4. Any DM giving max HP for first level does not understand the point of the randomness in D&D and should just design a system that gives a set amount of Life per level.

    Would love to take part Jeff, but I tend to sleep at 2 in the morning :)

  5. Unknown: Yes, the Caves of Myrddin are in northern Cornwall. You can send me characters or post them to google docs or drop them here in the comments. Whatever floats your boat. Or don't do any of those and just have a filled-in character sheet handy when it's time to play.

  8. Looks good! Wish I could apply, but I won't be around at that time. Really like how the process of character creation subtly informs the player about the setting, from things like languages (particularly illiteracy being a distinct possibility) to the items on the equipment list.

    I can certainly see why some of the rules choices would scare people away, but like all systems a GM can make the best or worst of the rules.

    Look forward to hearing how it turns out.

    Really? I can think of several reasons to start a game at 4:30AM. I don't know if any of these factor into Jeff's reasoning, I'm just trying to help unboggle your mind.

    1. Follow your muse. Hey, if dude feels creative before breakfast then why not get a game on?

    2. No GM distractions. The likelihood of being interrupted by real life is greatly reduced if everyone in your day to day is still asleep.

    3. Night owl gamers. They are out there. Build it and they will come.

    4. Join the global community. The sun is always up somewhere. I think it would be fun to run a game for people living on other continents. You could possibly meet your fellow North Americans at Gen Con, but when else would you ever game with some turkey from Turkey?

    5. The night time is the right time.
